About me

adventure

My development

I spent my youth in Austin, TX and enjoyed many of my summers in Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica, thanks to my dad, L. E. Gilbert of UT Austin, who ran a field course in tropical biology. At a young age I came to appreciate the beauties of nature and gained and independent attitude of exploration and discovery.

Varsity sports

Sports, Martial Arts, Etc.

Equally as important as my classroom education was my “school of hard knocks” education. You can’t innovate in science without extremely thick skin.

Tradition

My Major Scientific Influences

These scientists, historians, philosophers, and economists had great influence on my intellectual development.

Education

I graduated in 2002 from Yale University with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and in 2011 from Rice University with a Ph. D. in Ecology and Evolutionary.
